ESPN’s Saturday morning pregame show, “College GameDay” had a different kind of broadcast at Wake Forest ahead of the Clemson game there. The popular TV show made adjustments in light of the coronavirus pandemic, including an oversized desk, and Lee Corso coming in live by video conference.

Several other coaches checked in by various forms of video connections.

But one staple also made the show, and was noted by the broadcasters. Ol’ Crimson, the flag of Washington State, extended its streak to an amazing 243 GameDay straight appearances and counting. It started as a campaign to get ESPN to come to Washington State in 2003 when the team was highly ranked.

The Ol’ Crimson booster club summarizes it this way: “This is an organized grass-roots effort by the alums and fans of Washington State University. The original organizer, Tom Pounds of Albuquerque, WSU class of 1981, has built a network of almost 200 WSU alums and fans around the nation. Most of these people live within 50 miles of the cities where the show is broadcast but some travel well over 200 miles to get to the show. People are being added to the list constantly.”

Here is a video from ESPN on the history of the flag.
