Duke Williams is getting another shot to prove himself at the game’s highest level.
The former Auburn standout had his collegiate career come to an end prematurely and was on the path to seeing his NFL career do the same before he had a career renaissance playing in the Candian Football League last season. Last fall, Williams caught 88 passes for 1,579 receiving yards for the Edmonton Eskimos. He also showed his big-play ability, as 11 of his receptions went for 30 yards or more for the franchise.
The Eskimos recently released Williams from his contract in order for him to pursue NFL opportunities. Turns out, Williams had a market in the league as the Buffalo Bills have worked quickly to pick him up. This news was first reported by Farhan Lalji of TSN Sports.
Williams was projected by many to be a preseason All-American for Auburn heading into the 2015 season but failed to live up to that hype and was dismissed from the program by Gus Malzahn following an incident at a bar. He then left the program and went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was signed by the Rams as a free agent following the draft but did not make the final roster.
Now it appears Williams will finally get a chance to show what he can do at the NFL level.
