The details of LSU’s payment of the buyout to soon-to-be former head coach Ed Orgeron have been revealed.
Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger, who originally reported that Orgeron and the university had come to an agreement that he would leave the program at the end of the 2021 season, posted the official details of Orgeron’s buyout to his Twitter account on Sunday.
As you can see, Orgeron will indeed receive $16,949,000 as his contract termination will be considered a “without cause” scenario. LSU will pay that amount out in a total of 18 installments beginning with $5.68 million in December and running through Dec. 2025. The amounts are set to range from $426,000 to $1 million throughout the course of the next 4-plus years.
