Mississippi State has plenty of question marks at quarterback heading into next season with Dak Prescott’s departure.
However, the Bulldogs got some very refreshing news on Monday regarding one of those mysteries. Quarterback Elijah Staley, who will be a redshirt sophomore in 2016, has announced on Twitter that he’ll be putting all his attention to football after dabbling in basketball as well.
Staley certainly has the measurables and the expectations. The 6-foot-6, 248-pounder out of Marietta, Ga., was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 18 quarterback in the Class of 2014, according to ESPN.com.
As you’d expect, Staley didn’t get a lot of playing time with Prescott on campus. He’s 3-for-5 passing for 51 yards and a touchdown at this point in his football career, only seeing the field in two games this past season against Northwestern State and Troy.
Staley had this to say on Twitter this afternoon:
“I just want to thank coach Howland & the Mississippi State basketball team for the opportunity to live out my dream in being able to play two sports on a college level. As of today I have decided to focus on playing football only and would like to thank everyone for the support y’all have given me in playing both.”
