As recently as a week ago, Alabama, LSU and Miami expected to find out which of the three schools would land four-star Amite, La. wide receiver Devonta Smith this month. Now they won’t be finding out until February.
Smith originally postponed his Aug. 15 announcement due to flooding in Louisiana. He’s now holding off on making his decision until Feb. 1, 2017, which is National Signing Day, he told Scout’s Billy Embody.
The Tiger Blitz report also notes that Tennessee is still in the mix, despite the previous announcement being billed as a decision between the Tide, Tigers and Hurricanes.
“They’re all good schools. It’s just going to be a matter of which one I’m most comfortable at,” Smith told Embody.
On 247Sports, which has Smith as the No. 2 Louisiana prospect and No. 10 wideout in its composite rankings for the 2017 class, 29 recruiting experts have made predictions on where he will sign, with 100 percent going to Alabama.
Smith appears to be uncertain about when he might play at Alabama.
“It’s a good school. Who wouldn’t want to go to Alabama? It’s not all about winning and tradition though,” he said. “It’s about where you feel comfortable at because you’ve got to play there your four years,” he said. “You could be winning, but you might not be playing at all. I’m pretty sure everyone there wants to play. It’s not really all about that tradition. It’s about the best opportunity for me.”
