ESPN’s Dusty Dvoracek says it would be a ‘travesty’ to drop Ole Miss if Lane Kiffin leaves

The seventh-ranked Ole Miss Rebels secured their first 11-win regular season in program history on Friday by knocking off Mississippi State, 38-19, to presumably lock up their first trip to the College Football Playoff.

Head coach Lane Kiffin is a massive part of the success that the Rebels have had in 2025, but rumors have continued to swirl regarding his future and whether or not he will end up leaving for another job.

Kiffin is expected to make his decision known following the Egg Bowl, but the Rebels have likely already secured their Playoff slot regardless of whether he stays or leaves. The only thing that might be affected by a potential departure from Kiffin would be whether or not they are selected to host a home playoff game. ESPN color commentator Dusty Dvoracek said during Friday’s game the Rebs have earned that right, no matter who is leading them on the sidelines.

“I think it would be a travesty if this team is punished because their head coach takes another job,” Dvoracek said in the waning moments of Ole Miss’s win over Mississippi State. “I do not think this team should be punished if Lane Kiffin is not coaching the…

“This team has earned the right to host a Playoff game in Oxford, Mississippi.”

Whether or not Kiffin decides to remain in Oxford is still very much up in the air, but if he does decide to leave, then it will mean yet another unprecedented decision that the CFP selection committee has to make come Selection Sunday.
