ESPN’s FPI predicts the outcome of every SEC Week 5 game

With all 14 teams in action, the SEC Week 5 slate is loaded.

Saturday’s 8 conference games include multiple marquee contests featuring teams ranked in the AP Top 25, including the “College GameDay” game of No. 8 Arkansas at No. 2 Georgia and the “SEC on CBS” showcase game of No. 12 Ole Miss at No. 1 Alabama.

ESPN’s Football Power Index predicts the outcome of each game:

  • Georgia (89.1 percent chance to win) vs. Arkansas
  • Missouri (52.8 percent) vs. Tennessee
  • Alabama (80.8 percent) vs. Ole Miss
  • South Carolina (71. 4 percent) vs. Troy
  • Florida (77.3 percent) at Kentucky
  • Texas A&M (68.6 percent) vs. Mississippi State
  • Vanderbilt (83 percent) vs. UConn
  • LSU (52.2 percent) vs. Auburn

Here’s how ESPN defines the FPI:

FPI is a predictive rating system designed to measure team strength and project performance going forward. The ultimate goal of FPI is not to rank teams 1 through 128; rather, it is to correctly predict games and season outcomes. If Vegas ever published the power rankings it uses to set its lines, they would likely look quite a lot like FPI.
