ESPN’s Matt Miller names NFL team he thinks will take LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier in Round 2

The LSU Tigers did not have the 2025 season they thought they’d have on the football field.

That’s an obvious thing to say, as the Tigers parted ways with head coach Brian Kelly and made a massive splash by hiring Lane Kiffin away from Ole Miss during the Rebels’ Playoff run.

QB Garrett Nussmeier also had a bad year, battling through injuries and ineffectiveness that hurt his NFL Draft stock. Once looked at as a potential first-round pick, Nussmeier is now looking more like a Day 2 pick.

ESPN’s Matt Miller released his full 7-round mock draft on Monday, and he has the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are hosting the 2026 draft, taking Nussmeier in Round 2 (No. 53 overall). Here’s what he had to say about the LSU QB’s fit:

Aaron Rodgers hasn’t announced his 2026 plans, but the Steelers’ lack of urgency in free agency likely points to his return. But Rodgers is 42 years old, and there’s no clear-cut successor on the roster. Nussmeier is ideal for Mike McCarthy’s West Coast offense, with good arm talent and accuracy on the move that would allow him to thrive in a short-to-intermediate passing scheme.

Where will Nussmeier end up? Will he sit behind Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh for a year? We’ll know by the end of next month.

Nussmeier’s LSU teammate, CB Mansoor Delane, is projected to go in the top 10 of the 2026 NFL Draft. Here’s the latest Kalshi market involving the top-10 picks:
