One of the biggest matchups in an absolutely stacked Week 1 college football slate is the rematch between the Texas Longhorns and the reigning national champs, the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The two powers last met in the semi-finals of last season’s College Football Playoff, where the Buckeyes handed the Longhorns a gut-wrenching loss in the Cotton Bowl.

Now, the two sides will meet once again up in Columbus in a top-three matchup to kick off their respective 2025 campaigns, and Bill Connelly’s SP+ has rendered a very interesting projection for how the rematch will go down.
The SP+ uses several different metrics and statistics to generate rankings for ESPN and project the outcome of any given game. For this massive week one clash, the SP+ actually has the Buckeyes edging out the Longhorns by a final score of 27-20.
While Texas is the higher-ranked team at No. 1 in the AP Poll, the No. 3-ranked Buckeyes are right behind the Longhorns and are actually slight favorites as of the writing at -1.5.
Combined with the game being played on OSU’s home turf at The Shoe, it’s really not too much of a surprise to see that the SP+ had the Buckeyes edging out the Longhorns.
That being said, this is a game that is sure to be tightly contested all the way through, and there’s really no telling who could end up coming out on top.
