FBS head coach feels like ‘biggest fraud’ after losing debut at new school

Southern Miss head coach Will Hall is clearly not happy with himself after an 0-1 start to the season.
The Golden Eagles lost, 31-7, at South Alabama last Saturday, as they gave up 31 unanswered points over the final 3 quarters. Not only was it Southern Miss’ first game of the year, but it was its first contest since Hall took over as head coach during the offseason.
Even though it was Hall’s debut with the Golden Eagles, he didn’t cut himself any slack. And he made that clear with these comments he made when speaking to the media this week:
Southern Miss coach Will Hall, coming off 31-7 loss to South Alabama: "My life's on the line. I feel like every day I wake up since I’ve got here, I’ve let a lot of people down. Right now I’m probably the biggest fraud to come through this place in last 50 years” h/t @ritchietmr

Hall has had success in his previous stints as a head coach. He went 25-11 with West Alabama from 2011-13, then went 31-9 with West Georgia from 2014-16. Hall spent the past 4 seasons as an assistant at Louisiana (2017), Memphis (2018) and Tulane (2019-20) before coming to Southern Miss.
There’s still plenty of time for the Golden Eagles to bounce back. So maybe Hall will feel a bit differently if his team can string together some wins later in the year.
But for now, Hall feels he needs to get Southern Miss on track. It will look to win its first game of 2021 on Saturday, when it hosts Grambling State at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
