Florida announces 2018 signee Randy Russell’s career over before it begins

Tough break for one of Florida’s incoming signees as a medical exam has discovered a medical abnormality in Randy Russell.

According to the school, the condition will prevent Russell from competing in football for the Gators. Russell was a three-star prospect from Opa Locka, Fla. He was rated as the No. 71 overall prospect from the state of Florida in the 2018 recruiting period, according to 247Sports Composite Ratings.

Here’s the statement, which was put out Thursday afternoon:

While his condition will prevent him from competing on the field for the Gators, it’s great to see the school and Dan Mullen standing firmly behind him as he continues to pursue his academic goals in Gainesville.
