Florida’s 2024 season hasn’t ended yet, but Kevin O’Sullivan has already made an important pickup for his 2025 roster.
Former Miami standout Blake Cyr took to social media Monday to announce that he is switching sides in the rivalry and will continue his college career at UF.

Cyr’s decision to enter the transfer portal was big news in the world of college baseball. He had a standout freshman season in 2023 and was productive in 2024 before missing most of the season due to injury.

Last year, Cyr earned Freshman All-America recognition while also being named to the All-ACC Freshman Team. He played in 60 games, making 59 starts in 2023.
As a freshman, Cyr posted a .305 batting average/.427 on-base percentage and .620 slugging percentage. He became just the fourth freshman in UM history to hit 17 home runs, joining Ryan Braun, Pat Burrell and Phil Lane.
Cyr had 18-multi hit games and 19 multi-RBI contests in his freshman year. He finished with 63 RBIs on the season. One of the best performances of his career came in Gainesville, when he hit 2 homers to log 7 RBIs on March 4, 2023, coming up just 1 RBI short of a Hurricane freshman record that has stood since 1976.
In 2024, Cyr was limited to playing just 25 contests. A thumb injury cut his sophomore season short in early April.
In the 25 games he played, Cyr slashed .284 AVG/.397 OBP/.537 SLG. He was on track for another double-digit home run season with 7 dingers in less than half of a season.
Miami listed Cyr as an infielder on its roster. Cyr, though, also has experience playing corner outfield, where he’s likely to crack a Gator lineup that could be replacing multiple starters.
