Florida reverses course on plans to reduce stadium capacity in Swamp renovations
Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin confirmed Thursday that upcoming renovations to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium will not impact fan capacity.
That news was first shared by 247Sports on Thursday afternoon, citing confirmation from Stricklin. The renovation project, which is scheduled to begin in 2027, was originally slated to reduce capacity at the Swamp by over 4,000 seats.
However, Florida seems to be finalizing a construction proposal that would allow the stadium to stay at or near its current capacity of 88,548.
This is significant news for a Florida fanbase that’s hoping to get improved on-field results in the near future. The Gators haven’t won more than 8 games in a season since the 2019 campaign when Dan Mullen led the program to an 11-2 record.
