Florida State honors ‘unconquered’ 2023 team with plaque, ignores Orange Bowl

Florida State is in the midst of a poor season, falling to 1-5 with a 29-13 loss to Clemson at Doak Campbell Stadium.
Things haven’t been quite the same for the Seminoles over the past 10 months. They went 13-0 in 2023 — including an ACC championship — but weren’t selected for the College Football Playoff. A host of opt-outs preceded the Orange Bowl, which saw the Noles outmatched by Georgia in a 63-3 final.
It’s probably a game Florida State fans would like to forget. And, judging by this plaque that was unveiled at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday, perhaps that’s what the athletic department was hoping for. Take a look and see if you notice anything missing:

The 2023 Seminoles, led by Jordan Travis before his injury, were one of the top teams in college football. In 2024, they’ve been anything but. After a New Year’s 6 appearance, albeit resulting in an embarrassing loss to Georgia, they’ve stumbled out of the gates.
Now, at the midpoint of the season, the Noles must go 5-1 the rest of the way if they’re to become bowl eligible. But with games coming up against a pair of Top 12 teams in Miami and Notre Dame, the chances of that seem slim.
Up next for, the Noles, though, is an open week, followed by a trip to Duke on Oct. 18.
