Florida swimmers Caeleb Dressel, Bobby Finke bring home more Olympic gold for Team USA

Florida’s own Caeleb Dressel and Bobby Finke won gold again during Saturday’s Olympic competition.
Dressel got the night started by setting an Olympic Record in the 50 Free with a time of 21.07.
In the 4×100 Medley Relay final, Dressel went 49.03 to help Team USA to Olympic gold in a world record time (3:26.78) for his fifth gold of the 2020 Games. Dressel’s 100 Fly split is the fastest 100 Fly split in history.

Dressel is the third U.S. male to win at least three individual golds in a single Olympics, joining Mark Spitz (1972) and Michael Phelps (2008). He is the fifth U.S. male to win at least five golds in a single Olympics, joining swimmers Mark Spitz (1972), Matt Biondi, Michael Phelps (2004, 2008, 2016) and speed skater Eric Heiden (1980).
Dressel now holds UF records for most individual event golds won by a Gator in a single Olympics of three (2020 – 100 free, 100 fly, and the 50 free). He also holds the UF record for most golds won by a Gator in a single Olympics of five (2020 – 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, 4 x 100 FR, 4×100 MR).
Finke went 14:39.65 to win gold in the 1500 Free. Finke is the first American to win this event since 1984. Finke was in the top three throughout the entire race but in the last 50 meters, he went a blistering 25.78 to set himself apart from the field to win by 1.01 seconds.
