Former Auburn TE Sal Cannella has found a new home in the NFL as a new signee of the Miami Dolphins.

Cannella played at Auburn from 2017 through 2019, and caught 25 career passes for 330 yards (12.8 avg.) and five touchdowns. As a senior in 2019, Cannella had 10 receptions for 188 yards (18.8 avg.) and two scores. He transferred to Auburn from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College following the 2016 season.

Cannella was not drafted following his Auburn career. He did go to the Chicago Bears’ mandatory minicamp in June as an invited player, but he was not signed afterward, AL.com reported.

It’s unclear what the Dolphins’ plans are with Cannella because the tight end position is a bit in flux.

The Dolphins signed Cannella and Kalif Jackson after they placed three of their tight ends – Mike Gesicki, Adam Shaheen and Cethan Carter – on reserve/COVID-19 on Sunday.
