Lonnie Johnson Jr. did not last long with the Kansas City Chiefs after the former Kentucky defensive back was acquired in a trade with the Houston Texans this offseason.

Johnson Jr., who was a second-round pick of the Texans in the 2019 NFL Draft, was waived by the Chiefs on Monday. Johnson appeared in 44 games the past 3 seasons, and made 172 total tackles. He recorded 3 interceptions and 13 pass breakups during that time.

He shared a couple of personal messages on social media in the last 24 hours that likely had something to do with the release.

At Kentucky, the JUCO transfer played for the Wildcats in 2017 and 2018, and started in 18 of 26 career games, including 18 in a row. He had two-year totals included 64 tackles, 3.0 TFL (13 yards), 1.0 sacks, 12 PBUs, two blocked kicks, one interception and a forced fumble.
