Former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who was waived by the Tennessee Titans on Monday, has found his next NFL stop; on Tuesday afternoon, he was claimed by the San Diego Chargers.
This re-unites him with Ken Whisenhunt, who was Tennessee’s head coach when Mettenberger played for the Titans from 2014-15. It’s an ideal situation for the 24-year-old reserve, as Whisenhunt currently serves as San Diego’s offensive coordinator.

Mettenberger, who was drafted by the Titans in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, was in the third year of his four-year, $2.345 million rookie contract before he was waived.
In 2015, Mettenberger appeared in seven games and threw for 935 yards while completing 60.8 percent of his passes to go along with four touchdowns and seven interceptions. Unfortunately, he finished his career in Tennessee with an 0-10 record as a starter.
Mettenberger joins a crowded Chargers quarterback depth chart, which already includes Philip Rivers — the franchise QB — along with Kellen Clemons and Mike Bercovici. OurLads.com currently lists him as the No. 3 option.
