Kony Ealy was entering his first season with the Dallas Cowboys after signing a one-year deal in April. However, the former Missouri defensive lineman won’t play a regular-season game for them.
According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Ealy is being released by the Cowboys ahead of their season opener on Sept. 9.
Ealy played three seasons for the Carolina Panthers from 2014-16 after they selected him in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He then played one season for the New York Jets in 2017.
Over his four seasons in the NFL, Ealy has 90 career tackles, along with 15 sacks and two interceptions. He played in 62 games, only missing two over four years.
Ealy played at Missouri from 2011-13, which included the school’s first two seasons in the SEC. He had 56 tackles, 13.5 sacks and an interception over three seasons.
Now, Ealy will need to find another new team if he hopes to play in the NFL this season.
Ealy’s release from the Cowboys came 10 days before their season opener against the Panthers.
