From sidelines to Senate? Former coach Tommy Tuberville leads recent GOP poll for Alabama Senate spot

Former Auburn and Ole Miss coach Tommy Tuberville has been weighing a move into politics recently, and it seems he’s ready to strike.
He’s in the mix for a U.S. Senate seat from Alabama, and after early polling results, it seems he’s the front-runner to land the Republican spot in the general election in 2020.
Per Cygnal, if the election were held today, Tuberville would win the Republican nomination, earning 29.3 percent of the vote, beating out Bradley Byrne’s 21.4 percent:

It’s still early, but if Tuberville wins the primary, he’d face Alabama graduate Doug Jones in the general election next fall. Jones won the seat in a special election against Roy Moore back in 2017 after Jeff Sessions vacated the seat.
Tuberville put up a record of 159-99 over his 21 years as a head coach, including stops at Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas Tech and Cincinnati.
