Georgia is boosting its home-field advantage in Athens.
Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald reported Friday that UGA donors were notified via email that the school is cutting down on visitor allotments and turning those seats into Bulldog season-ticket holders starting this fall.
Per Weiszer’s report, Auburn and Tennessee’s allotments will be decreased from 7,500 seats to 6,000 this season. Weiszer notes that the adjustments will result in UGA seeing the same decrease for visiting tickets at Jordan-Hare and Neyland Stadium in the 2021 season.
“It’s really handicapped us in what we can do with season ticket sales because we’ve got this variable number on the visiting allotment,” Georgia senior deputy athletic director Josh Brooks told Weiszer. “It will open up some more opportunities, a full package. This will allow us to create new season ticket inventory that we haven’t had before.”
Weiszer notes that South Carolina and Kentucky returned a significant number of visitor tickets last season for their games at Georgia.
During UGA’s recent success under coach Kirby Smart, the program has seen demand for season tickets exceed the current number of 58,000. Weiszer notes the new season tickets will be in the 600 level of Sanford Stadium.
Georgia will play six home games in 2020, beginning with East Tennesse State on Sept. 12.
