Georgia clinches earliest spot in SEC title game in eight years

Georgia’s win over South Carolina coupled with Kentucky’s loss to Ole Miss handed the Bulldogs the SEC East title Saturday, which was Nov. 4.
That gave Georgia the earliest date to clinch since Florida did it on Oct. 31, 2009. That season, Alabama knocked off Florida 32-13. The division title did not mean much to coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia players, who instead said they are focused on Auburn this week, and have larger goals.
This season, Georgia is 9-0, the first time it’s reached that record since 1982.
Behind a strong running game, quarterback Jake Fromm on Saturday completed 16-of-22 passes for 196 yards including touchdowns to Javon Wims and Mecole Hardman. He did not throw an interception.
Georgia plays at Auburn this week at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on CBS.
Georgia's clinching of a spot in the SEC Championship Game on Nov. 4 is the earliest a team has done so since Florida (Oct. 31) in 2009.
