This weekend’s baseball series in Athens between No. 14 Florida and No. 23 Georgia has not lacked in on-field fireworks. In Friday’s Game 2, UGA coach Scott Stricklin was ejected after the 2nd inning.

Stricklin argued with the umpire after the second inning ended in disappointing fashion for the Bulldogs. Georgia had runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs when Fernando Gonzales lined a ball in play off of the 2nd-base umpire. The 3rd-base runner was more than halfway home but was called back to 3rd by rule. As explained on the SEC Network+ broadcast, the rule book states that in that situation the batter is awarded a single and any other runners advance by force, otherwise, they are called back to their base. UGA left the bases loaded as Florida pitcher Brandon Sproat struck out the next batter, Cory Acton, to end the frame.

The Foley Field crowd was audibly upset by the Gonzales sequence. Stricklin was ejected after the inning, presumably for arguing the strike call to end the inning.

UGA won the series opener 7-6 in thrilling fashion, answering Florida’s 2-run homer in the top of the 9th with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning for a walk-off victory.
