Play through the whistle, LSU!

Georgia was the first to score in Saturday’s SEC Championship battle between the No. 1 Bulldogs and No. 14 LSU Tigers. It wasn’t how most expected the opening score to go, however.

Bulldogs defensive back Christopher Smith picked up a nearly settled blocked field goal attempt as LSU players walked off the field. It seemed as if most of the players on the field thought it was a dead ball – Instead, Smith scooped it up and took it the distance for 6.

Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken had the ultimate “rollercoaster of emotions” response to Smith’s score.

Georgia still holds the lead following the start of the 2nd quarter. The Bulldogs found the end zone again a few possessions later when Stetson Bennett connected with Brock Bowers for a 4-yard score. Ladd McConkey was able to extend Georgia’s lead even further to start the 2nd quarter.

LSU’s Kayshon Boutte found the end zone as well in an impressive response to Smith’s return touchdown above. Because of that, Georgia leads 21-7 through the first 16 minutes.
