The University of Georgia will induct four new athletes into its Circle of Honor on Friday night.
The school announced on Thursday that one of those will be center Peter Anderson, a consensus All-American for Georgia in his senior season in 1985. During the campaign, Anderson earned the distinction of becoming the first Vince Dooley-coached player to be named the team’s permanent captain at mid-season (an honor usually reserved until the end of the season).
At season’s end, he was also recognized as the team’s Most Outstanding Offensive Player. He also earned All-SEC honors in 1984 and 1985. The Glen Ridge, N.J. native was recently inducted into the Georgia-Florida Hall of Fame in 2013.
Here’s a description of the Circle of Honor, according to Georgia’s official website:
“The Circle of Honor is designed to recognize and pay tribute to extraordinary student-athletes and coaches who by their performance and conduct have brought honor to the university and themselves, and who by their actions have contributed to the tradition of the Georgia Bulldogs. The criteria also stipulate that each recipient has earned his or her academic degree.”
The other three athletes will be Matias Boeker of tennis, Leah Brown of gymnastics and Maritza Correia McClendon of swimming.
