For a time, Georgia State QB Mikele Colasurdo was the face of an ongoing conversation about college athletes, COVID-19 and a possible heart condition. Now he has been cleared to return to action and resume football activities.
Colasurdo, a freshman from Inman, S.C., recovered from a bout with COVID-19 over the summer, and his initial cardiac follow-up indicated possible myocarditis. He’s discussed his battle publicly in recent weeks.
In opening up about his bout with COVID and its effects, QB @mikelecolasurdo says he is thankful for the safe environment provided at GSU and he encourages everyone to take it seriously … AND WEAR A MASK.

According to the school, further cardiac evaluation confirmed that he does not suffer from myocarditis or other heart ailment that would prevent him from playing. Colasurdo has begun a phased return to practice.
“I’m very thankful to be able to put this behind me and return to the game I love,” Colasurdo said. “I really appreciate all the support from our coaches and our trainers and medical staff for all they are doing to protect our health. I’m excited to be back on the field.”
The Panthers are set to play the Louisiana Rajun Cajuns on Sept. 19.
