Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz reveals personal trademark leading up to NIL legalization
Like it or not, we are currently living in the wild west when it comes to name, image and likeness in college sports.
There are several states that have taken the necessary steps to fully legalize NIL rights for players this week (on July 1), including the vast majority of states in the SEC footprint.
It remains to be seen what exactly will happen once NIL becomes the law of the land in college sports, but Wisconsin starting quarterback Graham Mertz just gave us a hint at one move that’s likely going to become commonplace among star players across college football.
Mertz has trademarked his personal brand.
