Greg McElroy calls out Georgia fans critical of Stetson Bennett IV’s decision to return in 2022

Greg McElroy came to the defense of Stetson Bennett IV on Wednesday, moments after the Georgia quarterback announced his return to the program in 2022.
Bennett’s place in Bulldogs history was already secured as he guided them to their 1st national championship since the 1980 season. While he stated his intent to play football at some level in 2022, he kept his plans close to the vest before making his official announcement on Instagram on Wednesday, less than a week and a half after the championship against Alabama.
However, not all fans were happy with the decision. The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel took some screenshots of some of the negative reaction he saw on Twitter following the news:
Stetson Bennett finished the season No. 3 nationally in yards per attempt (10.0) and No. 4 in passer rating (176.7).
In the 4th qtr. of the national title game, he threw a go-ahead 40-yard TD and a 15-yard TD go up by 8.

Fortunately, Bennett has the full support of McElroy. The former Alabama great took to social media to call out Bennett’s critics:
I wonder what all these “experts” would say to Stetson if they saw him walking around Athens. My bet is that it’d be quite different than their Twitter timelines. https://t.co/hPCBPHAt6s

McElroy has a point. While it’s easy to make comments behind an anonymous Twitter account, one wonders what those comments would be to Bennett’s face.
