Auburn is looking for its first winning season since 2020. If the Tigers snap that drought, ESPN’s Greg McElroy is confident it’ll be in large part because of the wide receivers.

Sophomore Cam Coleman returns after flashing his potential with 37 receptions for 598 yards and 8 touchdowns last season. Auburn also snared Georgia Tech’s Eric Singleton and Wake Forest’s Horatio Fields in the transfer portal. Singleton amassed 56 receptions for 714 yards and 6 touchdowns last season. Fields tallied 39 receptions for 463 and 4 touchdowns last season.

McElroy credits Auburn coach Hugh Freeze for the development of the wide receiver room.

“Hugh Freeze has done a great job of recognizing what I need to solidify in order to take this program to the next level. He knows he has Cam Coleman. He knows he’s got a great talent at wide receiver but they wanted to get a little bit more versatility by adding Eric Singleton from Georgia Tech,” McElroy said. “He’s 1 of the best transfer portal players in the entire country. He’s an All-ACC player from a year ago with remarkable top-end speed.”

McElroy envisions opposing secondaries having nightmares against Auburn’s wide receivers.

“You also get some length in Horatio Fields that can go up and win some of those contested catch situations,” McElroy said. “…So you add 2 really solid wide receiver transfers to what was already an emerging wide receiver room.”

Auburn kicks off the regular season with a road matchup at Baylor on Aug. 29 (8 p.m. ET/FOX).
