The College Football Playoff will be staying at 12 teams this upcoming season, but there are some changes being made to the selection committee. One of the newest members of the committee will be Gus Malzahn, who helped lead Auburn to a national championship game appearance in 2013.
Malzahn was the coach of the Tigers from 2013-2020, finishing with a record of 68-35. While he got things off to a phenomenal start in his first season, the Tigers were never able to get close to that level again.
From 2021-2024, he was the head coach at UCF, finishing with a record of 28-24. Last season, he joined Mike Norvell’s staff at Florida State as the offensive coordinator. He helped the Seminoles have the third best scoring offense in the conference. He announced on Feb. 2 that he would be retiring from coaching football, but he is still going to be heavily involved with a sport in a big way.
Joining Malzahn on the committee for this upcoming season is former California coach Jeff Tedford and Dr. Bryan Maggard. Hunter Yurachek will return as selection committee chair, after being in that same position last year as well.
