Homecoming: Former Florida DB Vernell Brown announces he’s joining Dan Mullen’s staff

It appears that Dan Mullen is bringing back one of Florida’s own to join his staff.

Former Gators DB Vernell Brown, a Gainesville native, announced on his Facebook page that he was joining Mullen’s staff as the director of player development.

“I have been offered & will accept the opportunity to join my alma mater & Head Coach Dan Mullen’s Football staff as the Director of Player Development at the University of Florida,” Brown wrote.

Brown’s Florida career started under Steve Spurrier and finished under Urban Meyer (and Mullen) in 2005. He will replace Drew Hughes, who left for Tennessee’s staff in the same capacity this past January. He made 11 starts in 45 games for the Gators.

Most recently, Mullen hired Cordell Landers as the assistant director of player personnel. UF’s website currently lists staffers EK Franks and Otis Yelverton as assistant directors of player personnel, too.
