Houston Nutt has the same message for the Arkansas football team and its fans during an up-and-down 2022 season: hang in there.

Nutt, who coached the Razorbacks from 1998-2007, spoke to the Little Rock Touchdown Club on Monday.

“I know, after last year, everybody gets excited, you win 9 games. And then you have some people get hurt, and all the sudden, it’s not as nice,” Nutt told the crowd. “This is where you’ve gotta hang in there. As fans, sometimes, you’ve gotta hang in there, too. … It’s not easy.”

The Razorbacks are 5-5 with 2 regular-season games remaining against Ole Miss and Missouri. Arkansas needs another win to secure bowl eligibility.

“You’ve got 2 more games. You’ve got a chance. Let’s go,” Nutt said. “Let’s go get this bowl game. Let’s go get this one, this week.”

The Hogs are 17-16 in 3 seasons under Sam Pittman. Nutt shared his appreciation for what Pittman has done in his return to Fayetteville.

“Just from the outside looking in, I love the way he’s embraced Arkansas. I love the way he loves his players,” Nutt said of the current head Hog.
