Auburn may have saved the best for last in its 2025 recruiting class. Omar Mabson II was a February addition to complete the 2025 class, and the freshman is off to a hot start in his first fall camp.
Hugh Freeze spoke to reporters on Saturday. When discussing the Auburn running backs, he praised the active participants while Damari Alston and Jeremiah Cobb are sidelined. Mabson earned the highest praise from Freeze.
“Man, the other guys are showing up,” Freeze told reporters. “Durell (Robinson) had some explosive runs. Alvin (Henderson), there’s still a little learning curve for him, for sure. But I tell you, the one who is flashing is Omar. That pad level he has, and he’s patient. He’s gonna finish going forward. I would say he’s been the most surprising.”
Robinson is an experienced transfer from UConn. Mabson, on the other hand, is an Auburn High product who reclassified to the Class of 2025 to begin his college career early.
After reclassifying, Mabson was given a recruiting rating of 3-stars, the No. 27 player in the state of Alabama, No. 55 running back and No. 636 prospect overall in the Class of 2025 on the 247Sports Composite. It appears he’s exceeding expectations early with the Tigers, many of the local fans will be watching closely to see if Mabson makes an impact when the season starts.
