Four years ago, Ole Miss hired Hugh Freeze as its head coach.

Freeze is grateful to be the Rebels’ head coach, and on Saturday, the four-year anniversary of his hiring, he thanked the Rebel Nation on Twitter, saying, “We have enjoyed the journey beyond words!”

While Freeze is grateful to be the Rebels’ coach, Ole Miss is probably even more grateful that it hired him. The Rebels are 33-18 since Freeze was hired, and have had four straight winning seasons.

In December 2011, Ole Miss took a chance on Freeze, a coach whose previous college head coaching experience had come at Arkansas State and Lambuth (where he had a combined record of 30-7). The Rebels had just finished a 2-10 season and ended the year on a seven-game losing streak. Ole Miss went 7-6 in Freeze’s first season (2012), then improved to 8-5 in 2013, 9-4 in 2014 and are currently 9-3 this season and ranked 13th in the College Football Playoff rankings. Freeze also led the Rebels to bowl victories in 2012 and 2013, and victories over Alabama in 2014 and 2015.

If Alabama wins the SEC Championship Game, Ole Miss will likely make its first trip to the Sugar Bowl since 1970.
