Houston, Texas is still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, and the state of Florida is watching the development of Hurricane Irma very closely.
Hurricane Irma is currently a category five storm in the Atlantic Ocean, and Florida is squarely in the projected path of the storm. Irma is anticipated to hit the coast of Florida late Friday evening, and it is possible the storm could interfere with the Florida Gators home opener.
The National Weather Service tweeted a graphic of Irma’s projected path Tuesday:

Florida AD Scott Stricklin announced on Twitter that school officials will continue to watch the storm throughout the week, but no decision has been made at this time.

The Gators are currently set to square off with the Northern Colorado Bears at 7:30PM Saturday night in Gainesville. Fans will have to wait and see if Irma forces Florida to change those plans.
