Did Clemson DB Ashton Hampton make the interception of the year against Virginia Tech?

Clemson defeated Virginia Tech 24-14 to move to 7-2 on the season, bouncing back from a disappointing loss to Louisville in Week 10. The Tigers needed this win to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive, ultimately claiming a seventh straight win against the Hokies in the all-time series.

With the Tigers up 14-7 with just under four minutes to go in the third quarter, Hampton came up with an unbelievable interception of Hokies quarterback Kyron Drones to erase what looked to be a promising drive.

The interception was Hampton’s second of the season. The true freshman from Tallahassee, Fla., had a pick-6 against NC State in September.

Clemson will move up in the Playoff standings when the second set of rankings are released on Tuesday. The Tigers will wrap up the season at Pitt before hosting The Citadel and South Carolina.

If they win all three of those games, that won’t guarantee them a berth in the Playoff, as they’ll need some help to get there. But Saturday saw them recover from a tough defeat against Louisville at Death Valley to drop Virginia Tech at home.
