Iowa State-Kansas State game off to a sloppy start in Dublin

Iowa State and Kansas State are kicking off the 2025 college football season with a Week 0 game in Dublin.

It hasn’t been the greatest start to the first overseas edition of “Farmageddon”, to say the least.

First, the Cyclones were forced to punt on their opening drive. But as the Wildcats’ Dylan Edwards attempted to field it inside the K-State 10-yard line, he muffed the ball before the Cyclones fell on it. A few plays later, an Iowa State pitch play inside the 5 went awry as it was fumbled and then recovered by K-State.

At one point, the two quarterbacks, Iowa State’s Rocco Becht and K-State’s Avery Johnson, had completed 2 passes for 3 yards. Johnson’s stat line in the 1st? 1-of-4 for -3 yards. Becht eventually drove the Cyclones down the field for the game’s first touchdown to shake off a slow start of his own, making it a school record 19 straight games with a TD pass.

Things may pick up as the game progresses. But for a pair of teams ranked in the top 25, they didn’t really look it for the better part of the first quarter. On top of that, it’s been raining.

Here’s a sampling of some of the social media reaction to the game at Aviva Stadium:
