One of the more decorated and dependable LSU players in recent memory is set for his last game in Tiger Stadium this week. Safety JaCoby Stevens has confirmed expectations to leave for the NFL.

On Tuesday, he shared with reporters how he will remember his LSU career. Stevens is second on the team by one tackle to Damone Clark, with 58 stops this season. He also has four pass breakups, a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble.

“Just patience and hard work,” Stevens said of what he learned in his LSU career. “Coming in here as a high recruit, not playing, changing positions, not having success early really tested my patience, and that’s something I’ll always talk about. I think that’s a struggle of mine, and it forced me to be patient. It forced me to put my head down and put in the work.”

That patience helped him keep working to be good enough to get on the field at LSU.

“Then when I got that opportunity, I made something of it and I just didn’t look back,” he said.

Before the season, it was announced that Stevens would wear the coveted No. 7 for the season. Stevens had previously worn No. 3.

In 2019, Stevens finished second on the team with 92 tackles and five sacks. Stevens left high school ranked as the No. 1 safety in the 247Sport Composite’s 2017 class, as well as the No. 18 prospect overall.
