Jalen Brooks is reportedly back with the South Carolina Gamecocks. The news comes from Ben Portnoy of The State, citing “multiple university sources.”

Brooks last played for South Carolina in the Tennessee game on Oct. 9, 2021. Per Portnoy, “Brooks has been away from the program for undisclosed reasons since early October.”

In March, Brooks was removed from South Carolina’s online roster. Shane Beamer told reporters that month that Brooks was not part of the program. Beamer reportedly recently told the Gamecock Club in Florence that Brooks’ status would be addressed “as we get into the month of June.”

Brooks is still not listed on the 2022 online roster, though his online bio from the 2021 roster is an active page on the team website. Portnoy notes that pages for players who have left the program are typically inactive.

Brooks joined South Carolina ahead of the 2020 season. He was initially ineligible due to transferring twice from Tarleton State and Wingate. After South Carolina appealed, Brooks was cleared by the NCAA for the 2020 season.

Brooks, who was First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference at Wingate, has played in 12 games over the past 2 seasons. With the Gamecocks, Brooks has recorded 25 catches for 281 yards and a touchdown.
