The San Fransico 49ers announced Friday that former South Carolina standout Javon Kinlaw will miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury, according to ProFootballTalk.
Kinlaw missed last week’s game but only decided this week to have the season-ending surgery.
So far this season, Kinlaw had 8 tackles and a quarterback hit in the 4 games he played in.
Kinlaw was the 49ers’ first-round pick in 2020 (No. 14 overall) and was a first-team All-SEC Player in 2019.
While with the Gamecocks, Kinlaw accumulated 82 tackles (42 solo) and 10 sacks.
The 49ers will miss Kinlaw on their defensive front. Although they are ranked 6th in the league in total defense, they ranked 21st in points allowed and they are 2-4 overall.
Kinlaw’s injury serves yet another blow to this 49ers team.
