Jayden Daniels’ terrific rookie campaign hit a speed bump in Week 7, as the Washington Commanders quarterback left early in the 1st quarter against the Carolina Panthers with a rib injury. Daniels was seen on the sideline slamming his helmet to the ground in obvious frustration after exiting.
Fortunately for Commanders fans, the prognosis doesn’t seem to be serious. According to Mike Florio, the “level of concern (on a) scale of 1 to 10” is about a “3 or a 4”.

Daniels has acclimated seamlessly from the college game to the professional ranks after being taken second overall by Washington in the 2024 NFL Draft, totaling 1,410 yards, 6 touchdowns, and just 2 interceptions. On the ground, he has 66 carries for 372 yards and 4 touchdowns, averaging 5.6 yards an attempt.
His play has elevated the Commanders, who routed the Panthers 40-7 on Sunday to improve to 5-2 as Marcus Mariota threw for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns despite being sacked 4 times. Washington has already surpassed its win total from a season ago and currently leads the NFC East.
As Florio mentioned, though, Daniels’ health will be under the microscope even more for Week 8 as the Commanders host the Chicago Bears, a potential game between Daniels and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams.
