COVID-19 quarantines have teams preparing for scenarios where they might be missing multiple players or coaches heading into a game.

On Thursday, Jeremy Pruitt was asked which Tennessee assistant would step in as head coach if Pruitt were in quarantine for a game. Pruitt said Tee Martin would be the substitute head Vol. He joked that Martin would get the nod because offensive coordinator Jim Chaney would not want to risk a loss.

“Jim Chaney is the winningest coach in Tennessee football history I know he’d not want that. He’s going to take that mark for the rest of his life,” Pruitt joked.

In 2012, Chaney stepped in as the interim coach after Derek Dooley was fired in November. Chaney coached the Vols to a 37-17 win over Kentucky.

Tennessee’s assistant head coach, wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator, Martin has been in coaching since 2006 and a college football assistant since 2009. He joined Pruitt’s Tennessee staff ahead of the 2019 season.
