Jimbo Fisher’s team nearly knocked off No. 1 Alabama in back-to-back years, this time at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama held on to defeat Texas A&M 24-20.

Alabama kept the Aggies in the game by turning it over 4 times and missing 2 field goals. In Bryce Young’s absence, backup quarterback Jalen Milroe fumbled twice and threw an interception. Running back Jase McClellan fumbled, too.

Texas A&M quarterback Haynes King played well. King threw 2 touchdowns and put drives together late in the game to give the Aggies a chance to pull off the upset. The Texas A&M quarterback’s pass fell incomplete on the final play of the game to allow Alabama to survive.

During Fisher’s postgame press conference, he was asked about the injury situation, and he took the opportunity to point out that his team was missing some good players, too.

“Yeah, well, we didn’t have Ainias Smith. We didn’t have our left tackle. We didn’t have our left guard,” Fisher said during his postgame presser. “We didn’t have McKinnley Jackson. We didn’t have Shemar James. I mean, Shemar Turner. We’ve been short-handed all year, too. We don’t look for qualms, and he (Nick Saban) won’t either. I know Nick. He ain’t going to look for no qualms.”

However, the comment that fired fans up came when Fisher added, “We were playing a backup quarterback, too.”

King, of course, started the first 2 games for Texas A&M and was benched by Max Johnson following the loss to unranked Appalachian State.
