Joe Burrow left the practice field on a cart Thursday afternoon after an apparent injury during an 11-on-11 period at the Cincinnati Bengals training camp.
Burrow took off on a scramble to his right but almost immediately pulled up lame. He dropped down to the ground unable to put weight on his right leg and was looked at briefly before a cart came out to take him to the locker room.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor told reporters afterward that it’s initially believed to be a calf strain for the star quarterback.

Burrow was an All-American, a Heisman winner, and a national champion at LSU before being drafted first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Since then, he has led the Bengals to double-digit-win seasons in 2021 and 2022. He was the AP Comeback Player of the Year in 2021, returning from injury to lead Cincy to a 10-7 record, and AFC title, and a berth in Super Bowl LVI. The Bengals made it back to the AFC Championship again last season but lost to Kansas City.
Burrow threw for 4,475 yards and 35 touchdowns last season. As he enters his fourth NFL season, he’s also expected to sign a landmark extension with the Bengals in the coming weeks.
