Just as fellow Alabama quarterback Ken Stabler did, Joe Namath plans on donating his brain for scientific research.

Exactly one week ago, somewhat buried in the hoopla of National Signing Day, was the news that Stabler was diagnosed posthumously with chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or C.T.E., the degenerative brain disease believed to be caused by repeated blows to the head.

Now, according to AL.com, the 72-year-old Namath has said he also plans on giving his brain to science.

According to AL.com’s Mark Inabinett, Namath has said he was knocked out five times while playing the sport and questioned his brain function as he years went on.

The former New York Jets quarterback was honored in the Super Bowl 50 pregame ceremonies as MVP of Super Bowl III along with every other Super Bowl MVP.
