Justin Evans, a former Texas A&M safety, signed a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, just a day after star DB CJ Gardner-Johnson signed with the Detroit Lions in free agency. Evans is unlikely to be CGJ’s replacement, but will be fighting for reps on the field next season.
Evans has played just 3 seasons in the NFL despite being drafted in 2017. He missed 2019, 2020 and 2021 with various injuries, including Achilles and knee problems. He made his return last season with the New Orleans Saints, starting in 4 games while totaling 29 tackles, 2 pass deflections and a forced fumble.
The #Eagles are signing former #Bucs and #Saints free agent safety Justin Evans, per me and @MikeGarafolo. Evans helps fill a void at safety.

Evans played 2 seasons in College Station after a stint at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He put up 99 tackles with 5 interceptions with the Aggies and was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2017 NFL Draft as a result.
