Kirby Smart’s defense is no longer perfect on the season, as Georgia’s unit finally gave up a touchdown in the final minute against South Carolina.

To be fair the backups were in, but there’s a standard of excellence at Georgia. And with that standard, comes a lot of pride of being perfect.

Georgia demolished South Carolina Saturday 48-7. The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 130-10 to start the season.

South Carolina’s Luke Doty completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Gamecocks receiver Traevon Kenion for the first touchdown against Georgia’s dominant defense.

Following the game, Smart was asked about his defense giving up the score and how much it upset the starters.

“Well, I think they want those guys to learn,” Smart said. “We’re big on playing guys. We were playing some guys as early as the second series in the second half so they can get experience for us. It’s unfortunate. The big deal for them is keep trying to fight to do that.”

Smart was also asked about the standard of giving up zero points on defense.

“That standard was created by our group last year and the group a couple of years ago. When you have a great standard, guys are going to want to play to it. You have an expectation. Our guys work really hard during the week. I’m really proud of how they prepare on offense, defense and special teams.”
