Live from Tucson for Arizona’s nationally-ranked showdown with UCLA, College GameDay’s panel of analysts spent much of Saturday morning referencing the Pac-12’s overall strength at the quarterback position and largely ignored the SEC’s list of Week 4 games.
Saturday’s GameDay marked the first time college football’s traveling road show picked a Pac-12 site not involving Oregon or USC.
Here’s what Herbstreit said during the broadcast about today’s biggest games around the country:
On Tennessee-Florida:
“I’m really intrigued by this Tennessee-Florida game. This game over the last four, five or six six years has gone further and further off our radar. Whoever wins this game I think still is in the mix to get to Atlanta. There’s a lot at stake early in the season for both of those football teams.
“I think Josh Dobbs is the key here. We know Florida plays great defense and it’s at night, but I think late in this game Tennessee finds a way to end this streak.”
On Arkansas-Texas A&M:
“Arkansas will put forth its best effort, but I think Texas A&M makes plays at the end to win the game.”
On Mississippi State-Auburn:
“I think the quarterback, Sean White, does enough there and Auburn wins.”
On LSU-Syracuse:
“When you start talking about upset chances for Syracuse, if they had a quarterback or an experienced guy back there, it could be a different story. But you’re talking about a guy going back to spring that wasn’t even getting reps as a walk-on.”
On Oklahoma State-Texas:
“This is an opportunity to welcome Oklahoma State to the college football season after playing three weeks of nobodys. As much as I’m excited, pulling for Charlie Strong, I think Oklahoma State is going to go into Austin and take care of business.”
On BYU-Michigan:
“I still think Michigan is trying to get back to that defense … remember those defenses they had with those (big-name) linebackers year after year after year? Remember when (Jim) Harbaugh was at Stanford? That’s what they want to get back to defensively at some point.”
On TCU-Texas Tech:
“X-factor for both is the quarterback that can run. They’re going to score a lot of points. I’m going upset too (with Desmond Howard) and picking Texas Tech.”
On UCLA-Arizona:
“Are they (UCLA) going to be able to get away with coming into Tucson and running Paul Perkins? That’s my biggest takeaway.
