Kirk Smart addresses Georgia’s offensive identity

Kirby Smart isn’t worried about establishing one identity for his offense. He believes that can get you in trouble.

Instead, Smart wants his offense to focus on doing whatever it takes. That’s what they’ve done so far on their way to an undefeated start and that’s the identity he’s continuing to try to establish amongst his team.

“The offensive identity is do what it takes. That’s essentially what is always comes down to,” Smart said in his press conference Monday. “You’d love to have this defined that we’re just going to bully you and run it through you. Nobody really does that. I don’t know anybody that just does that. Kentucky did it last week against Florida, but they haven’t done it every single game that way. They’ve done it different ways. If you have one identity then that’s what they’re probably going to try to stop.”

Smart’s offense has looked a little different each game, but it’s worked out so far. The Bulldogs had their first close game on Saturday against Auburn, but came out with the win because they got things going when they needed to.

They’ll look to continue to find what works as they take on Kentucky on Saturday and working with what they have.

“I think our identity has been — we’ve been up and down in the red area, we’ve been pretty dang good on 3rd down,” Smart said. “We’ve got a lot of things that we can work on. But as far as whether it’s about the backs or not, we don’t cry over what we don’t have. You figure out what you’ve got and you figure out what they can do.”
