Konnor Griffin has been on the radar of every LSU baseball fan recently since his name was called in the 2024 MLB Draft.

A versatile infielder and outfielder out of Mississippi, Griffin was viewed as one of the prospects with the highest ceiling in this year’s draft. He was still available at No. 9 overall which is where the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted him.

As of Wednesday morning, Griffin was still unsigned with the deadline for his decision quickly approaching. However, he has signed with the Pirates according to Jim Callis with MLB Pipeline reporting a deal of $6,532,025.

The slot value for the No. 9 pick was just over $6.2 million, meaning Griffin was able to land a deal significantly over slot to bypass his college career. Even if that decision was always expected, it’s a significant blow for the Tigers with Griffin’s elite skill set off to the pros.

Griffin was the National Gatorade High School Player of the Year this past season and became the highest-drafted high school prospect in this year’s draft. Now, he will try to make his mark within the Pirates organization as he tries to climb the ranks to Major League Baseball.
